MISSION

KAFRC is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting quality family programs and events to North Grenville and the surrounding area. Incorporated in 1987, it is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of parent and community representatives.

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the KAFRC is to provide a relaxed, supportive and co-operative learning environment for children. We encourage the child to explore and experience the world in which s/he lives. We assist the child in developing his/her social skills, thus cultivating friendships and promoting a strong sense of community.

By providing child-oriented and developmentally appropriate activities, we promote positive learning experiences in the areas of social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth. We do this in a child-centered environment where children can safely learn through play.

PROGRAM GOALS

For the CHILD:

  • To help each child develop a positive self image and a good start toward reaching his potential.
  • To provide children with a variety of sensory experiences, gross and fine motor activities and cognitive and social experiences to facilitate their maximum personal development.
  • To provide an environment of equality regardless of the child's gender, economic, racial, ethnic or religious background.
  • To encourage each child to express herself by providing ample time and adequate opportunities.

For the PARENTS:

  • To provide affordable, licensed, non profit quality childcare so that the parent may pursue his/her own work or other interests.
  • To work cooperatively with the parents in identifying and meeting the child's needs.
  • To support the family by providing education through newsletters, parent information evenings, and by socializing with other parents of young children.
  • To welcome parents to visit the program and participate in a variety of ways such as fund raising, assisting on field trips, sharing special talents, participating on the Board of Directors or joining us for a meal.

For the COMMUNITY:

  • To help meet the needs of the community by providing a quality child care program.
  • To enhance the role of the Child Care Program as an integral part of the community by inviting special guests to the Centre and by going on excursions into the community with the children. The program is linked with all appropriate social services, elementary schools and other community agencies.
  • To promote public awareness of the importance of quality childcare facilities for young children, which will help contribute to their wholesome growth and development as future citizens of the community.
  • To accommodate the existing community services offered by KAFRC where space and opportunity allow.

HISTORY

KAFRC began as a mutual support group for parents in 1982. The group was known as 'Parent-to-Parent' and was established through the efforts of several local parents.

In 1987, KAFRC became incorporated as a non-profit organization offering several programs and services to the community. The Kemptville Toy Library (transferred to the Ontario Early Years Centre in October 2003) and Kemptville Co-operative Nursery School operated under the umbrella of KAFRC. South Branch Child Care Centre opened its doors in September 1992.

KAFRC now operates a Co-operative Nursery School, Toddler/Preschool programs as well as Kindergarten and School-age programs. Most recently KAFRC became the service provider for the South Branch Elementary School Ready 2 Learn program. All of our programs are licensed with the Ministry of Community and Social Services.
