ADMISSION
| |
We welcome applications from any family requiring child care for their child(ren). KAFRC will attempt to accommodate on a case-by-case basis specialized services for children with special needs. Please note that we do not employ a resource teacher.
Children are admitted to KAFRC for any age group generally on a first-come, first- served basis. Priority will be given to full-time child care and to siblings of children already in the program. Part-time and occasional care is available when space permits. Admission depends on the KAFRC's ability to meet the child's needs and the needs of the children already enrolled in the program. A non-refundable registration fee of $15.00 is required when registering.
An interview with the Supervisor will be scheduled prior to enrolment so that you and your child may familiarize yourselves with the KAFRC, review our policies and procedures, ask questions and complete the enrolment forms.
| |
| |
WITHDRAWAL
| |
The child is no longer eligible for the program when:
- the program does not meet the needs of the child;
- the child is unable to function in a group setting;
- the child is beyond program age;
- a parent does not comply with the policies of KAFRC; and.
- fees remain outstanding for two weeks or more.
KAFRC will give notice when a child is no longer eligible for a program. The reason no longer eligble for the program and suggestions for alternate care will be provided.
| |
| |
ARRIVAL AND PICK UP
| |
We recommend that you try to establish a regular arrival and pick up schedule to ensure a sense of security for your child(ren). It is required by the Day Nurseries Act that parents notify a teacher of the child's arrival and departure. Please enter the classroom and announce your arrival and departure.
KAFRC must be informed whenever a person other than the parents will be picking up their child. The teachers will not release the child without this notification.
A late penalty of $1.00/minute will be charged to any parent picking up their child after hours. We strongly encourage you try to ensure an alternate person is available to pick up your child when you are not able.
| |
| |
ABSENTEEISM
| |
KAFRC must be notified if your child is going to be absent from for any reason before 8:30 a.m. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to give families a refund or reduction of the monthly fee as a result of the child being absent; this includes holidays and sick days. The programs are budgeted as a cost recovery, non-profit program and they are dependent on full enrolment.
For children attending school, if your child leaves school during the day and will not be attending the after school program, PLEASE let the KAFRC staff know immediately as it is not the school's responsibility to keep us informed.

Bus transportation must be arranged between the parent and the school for the children attending Holy Cross School, Ecole Ste Marguerite Bourgeoys and Kemptville Public School. The Supervisor can assist parents with these arrangements
| |
| |
BUS CANCELLATIONS

NUTRITION
| |
Kindergarten and School Age Programs
| |
Nutritious snacks are served daily, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The snack menu is posted on the parents' bulletin board. Should medical or religious circumstances prevent a child from having a particular snack. KAFRC can provide a substitute or parents may assist by providing an alternate snack.
| |
"Brown Bag Policy"
| |
Children attending for full days are required to bring a nutritious lunch. We suggest at least one serving from each of the following food groups
| |
milk and milk products (eg. yogurt, pudding)
meat and alternates (eg. cheese, soy products, fish, eggs)
breads and cereals (eg. flat breads, rolls, granola bars)
| |
and two servings from the following:
| |
fruit and vegetables (eg. fruit juice, vegetable patty)
| |
We strongly discourage foods with low or poor nutritional value, for example, candy, chips etc. Soft drinks are not allowed. Exceptions are made for special events such as birthdays and holidays. Should children arrive with such treats, they will be allowed to eat them under the following two conditions:
| |
1. Their lunch is complete and balanced, as described above.
2. They have finished all of their nutritious lunch first.
| |
School Age children have lunch at their respective schools. On all Professional Development (PD) days and school holidays children are required to bring their lunches.
| |
Children's names must be clearly marked on lunch containers.
| |
Please note: We do not provide refrigeration or heating of lunches. Please include "cold packs" in an insulated lunch container for cold foods and put hot foods in a thermos.
| |
Toddler and Preschool Programs
| |
Nutritious snacks are served daily, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. In addition, a nutritious meal, providing nutrients necessary for growth and development is served daily. Mealtime also provides an opportunity for children to experience and gain a positive attitude toward a wide variety of foods, to enhance socialization, self-help and language skills.
| |
Menus for both snacks and main meals are posted on the parents' bulletin board. Should medical or religious circumstances prevent a child from having a particular snack or meal, KAFRC can provide a substitute or parents may assist by providing an alternate.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
| |
The teachers at the KAFRC will endeavor to communicate with you regarding your child on a regular basis. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We welcome visits from parents, involvement in the daily program, participation in special events and on the Board of Directors and/or its committees.
Parents can come on our field trips, join us for lunch or contribute their talents and skills to the program. Parental involvement serves to enhance the program.

HEALTH
| |
The Day Nurseries Act requires daily outdoor play for all children. Therefore, children too ill to play outside should
remain at home. If a child becomes ill during the day, temporary care will be provided until the parent or guardian
can be contacted, and the child can be taken home.
In order to ensure the overall health of all the children, we ask that you comply with the following guidelines:
| |
1. A child should not be brought to the Centre if he or she has:
| |
- an elevated temperature more than 100 F
- vomiting
- severe diarrhea
- conjunctivitis (pink eye eye is red with yellow discharge)
- rashes that you cannot identify or that have not been diagnosed by a physician
- impetigo (red pimple like blisters on the skin)
- severe cold with fever, sneezing and nasal discharge
- any communicable diseases including mumps, measles, scarlet fever, etc.
- bronchitis or pneumonia
- head lice: upon detection, the child is separated from other children. Parents are notified and asked to pick up
the child and follow a de-lousing regimen. The child may return to the child care centre once treatment is
completed which includes shampooing and removal of all nits
| |
2. A child's re-admittance to the child care centre after a contagious illness or injury will be based upon:
| |
- a doctor's note and/or
- recommendations from the Public Health Nurse and/or
- the child's ability to participate in a group situation as assessed by the Supervisor.
| |
3. A record of immunization will be required for each child before admission to the school. The Health Unit
requirements are as follows:
| |
- Two, four, six, and eighteen month vaccination; or
- A completed statement of medical exemption; or
- A statement of conscience or religious belief affidavit.
| |
4. Clothing suitable for current weather conditions should be worn. Shoes with non-slip soles are to be provided
for indoor play. No slippers are allowed. A seasonally appropriate complete change of clothing is to be provided
by the parent whenever the child is in attendance.

ADMINISTRATION OF DRUGS
| |
KAFRC will administer prescription drugs to children, in accordance with the Day Nurseries Act. This requires that parents provide:
| |
- written authorization, including the dosage and times any drug is to be given; and
- medication in the original container, clearly labeled with the child's name, the name of the drug, the dosage, the date of purchase, instruction for storage and administration of the drug.
| |
We prefer not to administer "over the counter" drugs; however, we will administer these for a period no longer than two days in a row. If you wish your child to have a non-prescription medication longer than two days, we will ask that you bring a doctor's note authorizing this. As with prescription drugs, we require written authorization and medications in original containers as described above.
| |
| |
CLOTHING AND PERSONAL BELONGINGS
| |
Due to our changing seasons, please ensure proper clothing for indoor and outdoor play. You may also wish to keep a full change of clothing at the Centre in case of an accident or messy play. Please label all articles of your child's clothing. We cannot be responsible for lost items.
There are also a number of activities where children may get dirty (spilled paint, glue, etc.). Please send your children in clothing that you do not mind getting dirty.
Children should leave personal toys at home unless it is a "show and share" day. Precious toys from home can get lost, broken or end up causing disputes among the children. Children are welcome to bring in a soft toy for rest time.
| |
| |
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT
| |
Children are disciplined in a positive manner at a level that is appropriate to their actions and their ages in order to
promote self-discipline, ensure health and safety, respect the rights of others, and maintain equipment. Children are
encouraged to consider options and to interact assertively with one another.
We use a variety of behaviour management techniques. We may redirect a child to a different play area within the room. We
may model appropriate play and language. We attempt to give choices whenever possible. With older children, the child is
given the opportunity to learn problem-solving skills through a discussion on appropriate choices in dealing with the
situation eg. speaking to the other child.
If a child's behaviour hurts others, either physically or emotionally, the child may be asked to sit away from the group
momentarily to "cool off" or may be redirected to a different activity away from those who have been hurt. After an
appropriate length of time in accordance with the child's age, the child is brought back to work through the problem
and then engage in play.
Whenever possible, the teachers use positive reinforcement. Reinforcing the positive behavior of the child helps
reduce the negative. Consistency is also a key to successful behavior management. Fairness, firmness, friendliness and
flexibility are characteristics of our disciplinary approaches.

FEES
| |
Fees are based on the actual cost of operating KAFRC's programs. Fees are assessed on a monthly basis and parents must pay whether or not their child attends the program. There are no reductions for absent days or holidays.
Upon enrolment, parents are asked to provide a registration fee of $15.00. Monthly fees are required on the first day of each month. Parents are asked to provide postdated cheques in advance every four months (Jan-Apr/May-Aug/Sept-Dec)). Cheques are payable to KAFRC and are to be dated for the 1st of each month.
Part-time care may be available when space permits. Monthly fees are required on the first day of each month; a monthly schedule is to be submitted a week in advance of the upcoming month.
Parents are able to apply to receive a subsidy for the fees. This subsidy is administered by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. To determine if a parent qualifies for a subsidy, an appointment for assessment with the United Counties Children's Services Department must be made by contacting the Intake Worker at 1-800-267-8146.
Graduating from one program to the next is dependent on space availability. We cannot guarantee continuity from the Toddler through School Age programs. Unfortunately, continuation through our programs is not guaranteed.
